This year the Nobel Physics Prize went to three scientist who worked on blue LEDs, one of them S.Nakamura developed a blue/violet laser too.

I remember reading somewhere that the bonus Nichia gave to Shuji Nakamura for inventing the blue LED was something like $485. I can't imagine the strain he's going through right now just holding that grin.
