I think I can pick myself up a ~2mW he Ne LASER for just over $50.

I'm a little short on cash right now but if I get it would people be interested?

Also at this price is it worth it?

Im not guaranteeing i'm getting it just want thoughts...

its second hand btw. In very good conditions with some scratches to the case and sticker (but functions fine). made apparently by NEC.

pic is below

Re: is $50 for a he/ne laser acceptable?

$50.00 aint bad for a working HeNe. How beat up is it? Do you have a picture of it?

Re: is $50 for a he/ne laser acceptable?

Looks to be in good shape, the housing is intact, beam is inline with the body. Is the power cord in good condition, switch and indicator lights all work? If so, $50.00 is good. Check out the prices for a new 2mW HeNe for an eye opening comparison.

Apparently apart from some scratches to the case and sticker it all works fine :)

would anyone be interested if I bought it?

Ok this is no longer happening I missed my chance to get it for $50 so no longer available.

How do we delete a thread?

You don't delete the thread - you just post that it is no longer available, like you did - viola ! :) too bad - that looked like a nice HeNe system ! I don't have any enclosed units like that, all mine are enclosed tubes, with a few bare tubes thrown into the mix :-)

cheers for the reply.

i didn't receive any interest in it so I didn't get it...

Well - if you were getting it strictly for resale, unfortunately, not too many people appreciate the beam specs of an HeNe, thus they pass on the opportunity when it presents itself - me personally, I would have picked it up jsut to have it in my collection :) IF I had the funds, that is :P

Oh, but the helium neon lasers are like a fine wine. The have very narrow linewidths, long coherence lengths, low divergence, excellent beam quality, etc. And like a fine wine they have the subtle hint of power. They are what all other lasers aspire to be. Also like a fine wine, they can be exceedingly expensive for all output up to the max of around 40mW or so. There are some really powerful HeNe's out there (powerful for a HeNe anyway) but they are not commercial products.

Who cannot appreciate the ambiance and purity of the helium neon? Everything else is like drinking MD 20/20. Sometimes brute force loses to chromatic perfection.

lol I just didn't have $50 to spare unless someone would take it from me...
shame.

I just found this on Ebay... not too sure if they're working or the condition, but it's cheap and there's 4 available:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Uniphase-HE-NE-...VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247

Uniphase 1007 HeNe head with a Laser Drive 497-0300127 power supply.

This document says the tube is 0.8mW. Not powerful, but for $30 shipped? Not bad.

From what I can tell, the only downside is you'd have to supply 10/14VDC, not just plug it into the wall.

Ooooooo ! QUIT IT ! Man - I am grounded from E-Bay...a lack of restraint on my part...gets me into trouble ALL the time ! LOL ! I managed to get a HD dvd reader for $18.00 shipped, though - as long as I get it before the wifey gets home from work, I can always say, "Honey - we've HAD that !" Muahahahahahaha ! She once threatened to place a mark on the wall in our old house - so she could see how the pile of computers would change on a daily basis :P
