Always wear safety goggles and treat your laser as if it were a firearm.

This is pretty good advice.

I came back to lasers a while back, after being away for many, many years, when I discovered how the economics of the hobby had transformed in the intervening years.

I've never really sweated much about my safe handling of lasers, because I have trophies and medals for semi-automatic pistol shooting (and no trophies or medals for my attempts semi-automatic rifle competition), and so I always instinctively treat my lasers EXACTLY as is they are firearms:

  • ALWAYS treat it as if it is loaded, even if you know otherwise (in the case of lasers, "loaded" means "batteries in").
  • ALWAYS have your protective gear on before picking up the device.
  • NEVER leave the device laying around unsupervised, out of your control.
  • ALWAYS store the device safely, out of the reach of anyone but yourself.
  • NEVER point it at something that you are not willing to destroy.
  • ALWAYS know what is down-range, and do not touch the device if there is someone down-range, or something down-range that you are not willing to destroy.
  • ALWAYS pay attention to what is behind and beyond your target.
  • Be aware of anything that could cause ricochets (or reflections in the case of lasers).

The similarity of hand-held lasers to hand-held firearms is really uncanny.

Re: 1.2 Watt Copper 445nm blue lasers $149 shipped

I know I only have a few posts but I have been browsing the site for a while learning what I can before deciding to make a purchase for a serious laser like this, I have other ones and while not as strong as this I am aware of the danger of it and that it should be treated more as a weapon than a toy.

That being said, I have been looking for glasses to order and seen many posts on the forums recommending the eagle ones posted in this thread, all the way to 100+ dollar glasses. Now, I know eyesight is priceless but are 100+ dollar glasses really necessary? I was looking at getting 405nm,450nm,473nm,532nm laser safety goggles [OLGLG532] - $19.99 : Welcome to O-Like.com, Your source for laser products until I saw the post about the other eagle ones in this thread. If I bought the O like ones, would they be safe enough to use with this laser or should i just suck it up and buy the eagle pair?

Get good goggles. They will be needed when burning things. Otherwise you cannot look at the spot.

Re: 1.2 Watt Copper 445nm blue lasers $149 shipped

hi yobresal
i get today my laser
But he did not burn anything
Not even a match
What to do?

Re: 1.2 Watt Copper 445nm blue lasers $149 shipped

Charge batteries. They do not come charged. After that, burn things that are not white. Chances are you grabbed a white piece of paper and a white tipped match and didn't focus the laser. Let me know how this goes. All lasers are tested for output before shipped with a fresh set of charged cells.

i must be special :D my batteries came charged at 3.62v

Re: 1.2 Watt Copper 445nm blue lasers $149 shipped

They actually charge up to 4.2V on full charge.

Re: 1.2 Watt Copper 445nm blue lasers $149 shipped

4.2V each cell. So 8.4V...Yes it's preferred. at 4.2V it is not very powerful

Re: 1.2 Watt Copper 445nm blue lasers $149 shipped

I loaded the batteries I received
Before that I tried with my batteries and is not burned
Now I put the batteries I received after I fried them
The laser did like Flash
Then he turns off
Now is not working for me and I do not know what to do
And I expected much more
