I recently purchased a 30mW 532 module and hooked it up to the standard driver. I notice there is no green beam, But what I do see is on the inside of the module is glowing faint red (Maybe IR?)
Anyone know what this means? did I get a dud/blow it up? or Maybe I am just hooking it up wrong?
Any help is appreciated.

be very careful that red is ir that can blind you easily it may look not powerful at all but it may be ypu probably got a mis-aligned module request a refund...

Thank ya. And I was careful, I never looked directly into it. I glanced from a 30degree angle.

You hooked a module up to a driver?
Doesn't it already have one?
Generally a 532nm module already have a driver built in and you just connect them to power.

Nah, This was just a brass Module with a diode and leads attached to it.

Interesting, I've never seen a 532 sold without a driver included.
Where did it come from? Feebay?

I am also very glad you didn't look into the dim red light.
I was a little worried as well when I saw the title....

:cryyy: Gimme a little credit! lol

It could be a lot of things. It could be a sign that the innards are not aligned. It could be a sign that the unit is not getting enough power. It could be a sign that it needs to warm up before the green will come on. If you're adding your own driver then it could also be a sign that you didn't use the correct driver.

The main question I wanna ask is if it is still showing the IR in the module is there any possibility that it is blown?
If the problem lies with the can not being dead then I will just troubleshoot it till I find something.

Yes, permanent an irreparable damage (like the crystal inside being cracked) could also manifest as a red dot.

i think you just turned your diode into an led. theres probobly no IR but i wouldnt look directly into it just to be on the safe side lol
