Hey, I was wondering is there any hazards when viewing a nitrogen laser output on white material (turn bright blue)? I haven’t found any info on this. Or possibly skin hazards even though it is pulsed.thanks any info would help!

Diachi, I’m saying a nitrogen laser, at least mine is a few nanosecond long pulse at 1-20 Hz I was wondering if those tiny pulses do anything to skin unlike a CW laser would. Also if viewing the spot on white paper which glows blue under this intense ultra violet light could hurt my eyes because it has a peak power in the kilowatt range but an average power of only 3 milliwatts which is relatively eye safe am I correct?

Think about this. When is intentionally exposing ones self to ionizing UV light a good idea?

Well I mean exposing your self to X-rays isn’t “too” bad unless over done, I’m guessing these aren’t as bad possibly due to longer wavelength

I see you have a number of YAG lasers. DO you actually have them AND
powered up? MY YAGs can easily output over 20 KW but with an average of
about 25 mW.. A bullet outputs its energy is a split second too. Wear eye
protection and limit direct skin exposure.

Yes I actually have them up and running, I just close my eyes though no need to look at them for such a short pulse every few minutes. The reason I was concerned about the nitrogen laser is because of the super short wavelength 337nm YAG I’m not worried about as it is 1064nm and relatively weak. I guess I’ll just keep looking at it for short amounts of time without my goggles on should be okay pretty much the same as a 405 pointer on white paper. Thanks guys

MAN -- I wish I has SS lasers like that. Really unique stuff to have.
My Yag lasers are also relatively weak too ....

Exactly.
How is it even common sense possible for someone to think it is OK to look at kilowatt pulses of a 337nm UVA laser?
Is an idiot level thing to do especially in the context of a no reason for it meaningless activity where it is easily possible to avoid the exposure.

Wear UVA blocking glasses----you will still be able to see the visible florescence
