NiMH AA batteries make alpha dim?

Ok, so recently I've switched to NiMH rechargeables. Today, I noticed that my laser was flickering and dimming. After a moment of panic, I realized that it might just be that the batteries were out of juice. I popped in the other NiMH batteries I had on the charger, and the same thing happened. This is when I started to get worried. I then popped in some regular Energizer alkalines. The flickering ceased once I put in the energizers. So, what was the problem? Are my NiMH batteries faulty? If so, what NiMH batteries/charger do you suggest?

Could it be a problem with my charger?

Heres the batteries/charger that I got: http://www.radioshack.com/sm-30-minute-battery-charger-with-4-aa-and-4-aaa--pi-2361890.html

thanks!

nimh battries provide 1.2 v and the alpha needs 2.8v to get its maximum out put so if your battries have been used at all or taken right off the charger they should do good for a few min but then will become dim.... that is why i did the pot mod to mine .... now nimh battries work as good as lithiums

Cool, thanks for the info. Are the output specs of your Alpha in your signature from before the pot mod or after it? A 141.9mW average is pretty high for a 125mW laser :D.

They're from before, the decimals are indicative of Nova's testing equipment, they always provide you with decimals on the little paper inserts they include in their packages.

Wow, then that's really high. On the packet I got, my laser was rated a 130.2 average and a 132.9 peak. Oh well, it's still 5mW over what they rated it as!

PS: I just switched to lithiums. They last a lot longer, and they provide much more power, perfect for burning.

Thanks!

Your NiMH batteries might just be old. I used to use these old rechargeable AAA's in my old X105, and the power wasn't that great, but when I got new rechargeables it worked good again.

ya the power was befor the mod..... i ended up with a faulty laser at first but they made it up to me : )what a great company i tell you

and yes old battries could aslo be the problem
