Nichia diodes info

Hi all,
I'm new to this forum, I'm looking for a new LD for a personal project and I was hoping to have some tips and insights from you guys.

The LD I was considering come all from the DTR's laser shop and are:
- N465
- N450
- NUBM05
- NUBM06
- NUBM07 ?
- NUBM08

I'm looking for the diode with the best beam properties and the smallest spot size. I considered even the NUBM44, very powerful, but looks more a flashlight than other Such a big divergence!
I read pretty much all the threads on these diodes here on LPF and I was hoping you guys could give me some more details about these LDs. My goal would be to collimate the LD and then focus it. The focal length I'm looking for is about 20-30cm ( 7,8" - 11,8").

As I said I'm looking for a diode with a junction that allows some optical corrections in order to achieve the tightest beam spot.

How small a spot are you looking for? What's your application?

I'm looking for a spot in the range of 0.1-0.3mm (0.04"/0,12"). The beam spot does not have to be fully rounded.

Do you need a high power diode? There are single mode diodes that have very good divergence specs, but the high power ones make it more difficult to focus down to a very small spot. Not saying it can't be done, just more optics involved. Is this for an engraving application? If so, what are you planning to engrave?

I know that single mode diodes have very good raw beam specs and, if fine tuned, can be focused down to a beam spot even lower then 0.1mm; however in my case a high power diode (within the 405- 480nm range) is required. The laser it's not gonna be used to engrave but within a scanning device. The number of optics it's not a problem. One of my concern is to be able to get a sharp and tight focus at the required distance ( 7,8" - 11,8") which is not that close to the diode.

The divergence from the NUBM08 looks very similar to the NUBM44. The N465 looks slightly better, definitely can be improved with a cylindrical lens!

Does anyone has any experience with the other LDs?

Exactly... The project can't be that big if you're coming to a hobbyist forum for answers. If it were that big you'd be able to reach out to a consultant or one of the manufacturers for your answers.

That's actually a good idea... I thought about that earlier but I didn't proceed in that direction because of the current nature of my project... which as I stated before it's personal. However if you have any advice on companies that might provide what I'm looking for I'd more than happy to hear! :yh:

Well, It is. I create this thread to collect some tips and advices from people that already worked with these LD, that apparently are quite a lot on this forum. Furthermore my area of expertise it's electronic, not optic.

As I said before my project it's currently personal... that's also why I'm here!

So as I wrote previously I have no problem in sharing the details of my project with you guys, I just didn't do it cause I didn't think it could be any helpful or related to what I asked for. Frankly I didn't won't to bore you too

Coming back to the topic, let's see if someone can help me!
All these multimode high power LD have an incredibly wide fast axis so in relation to this my main concern is the actual feasibility of being able to obtain the required beam properties at the required distance. With a short focal length getting a tight beam spot looks pretty easy with a pair of cylinder lens and convex lens but at a distance of 7,8" - 11,8" I'm not quite sure. Does anyone have any positive experience?
