Yo what’s up guys! 🤘
New to the forum and starting experimenting with lasers now 🤪 I need a bit of advice. I ordered the Nichia NUBM06 Laser Diode - 4W+ - 445nm on eBay, extracted from an array. It can take a maximum of 4A, and also bought a 5A (MAX) 12v power supply step down circuit. But wondering on what batteries with what voltage to connect? Because I wanna be able to take it with me. So; should I connect a 12v 4Ah battery? Or what?

Read the driver specifications from the place you purchased the driver from. You can read the driver specifications just as well as any of us.

Exactly ---ask the dog you bought it from or go back and look at the listing for the specs., then ask the dog you bought it from to confirm.
Try reading the words on your attachment just to get warmed up.

I made this a while back and it ran a NUBM44 at full power off of 3x 26650 batteries for well over 30 minutes.

PS forget batteries unless you want to use a 12V car or motorcycle battery----an AC to 12V 8A plug in the wall mains power transformer should work fine
Wouldnt 3x 26650 3.7V 5000mAh batteries Work?

That is not the focus lens it is a Beam Expander which makes the beam 3X wider with corresponding lower divergence screwed on to the actual focus lens mount.
No not that one, the gold one in the picture i attached to my answer to you 😌

Thats not a lens. It's a brass module that holds the diode itself.
The lens screws into that on the other end.. Brass also isn't the best choice as it's not a good heat sinking metal..Aluminum or copper is better.
Find a kit which has a lens with it for a blue 445nm WL.

Just wan't to add, that you need to order a kit that fits a 9mm diode.
The diode you have is also a fixed focused Gball lensed one. To make it focus you have to pop off the gball lens and use another like a G2, etc..
It might shorten the diodes life by doing this as everything is now exposed. Although most the complete 5W etching modules you see do use a decaned gball diode..

Ok thx 🤘 i just ordered a laser diode housing with a g2 lens 👌

If i pop the gball lens off the diode and put it in a housing like showed under with a g2 lens. What would the lifespan be?
Only for fun. Not going to run it for 12hours/day
