My name is Randy, I'm 40 and live in western Ohio. I've always been a tinkerer and love to build things. I studied electronics in high school and college and work as a computer technician.

I've been reading LPF off and on for over a year. Generally whenever one of jayrob or rog8811's projects get posted somewhere. About a month ago I finally joined LPF, as well as ordered a diode and housing from stonetek. I posted pics of my first build last week; a 803t bluray.

This wasn't my first attempt though. A couple years ago i saw the kipkay video and ordered 2 650nm diodes off ebay. The seller said for $10 he'd include a circuit to drive the laser. The circuit was a resistor and capacitor. :( I didn't know any better at the time and used it. Needless to say, the diode worked for less than 30 seconds before dying. I put the second diode in a drawer since I didn't want to destroy it too. That diode is now working.

So thank you to the people here for sharing the information I needed to get these diodes working.

I've been debating on whether to include this...may as well. I had a stroke a couple years ago. I don't remember things as well as I once did, and sometimes have problems figuring out things. If I ask for clearer explanation, or some other question that you think should be obvious. I promise, I'm not trolling, and I did try to figure it out myself...sorry to offend, things just don't come to me as easily as they once did. I won't post much. There are hundreds of people here who know better than I do, and I know it.

So, hello.

Hey Randy,
Welcome to the forum, and sorry to hear about your stroke. I know it can be difficult sometimes, but hang in there..I'm sure we all will try our best to help here :)
Once again, welcome and enjoy. :)
