So this is my first laser but id like to have it be a good one.

Id really like to have a burning laser, i mean who wouldn't?

So I'm going to get the host kit and all from Mohrenberg

and M140 445 diode in the module from DTR

Now the only thing I'm wondering about is I need the driver set to a certain setting.
I was told the 1.62a which will put out 1.7W-1.8W is what alot of people choose.

I've read and been told that the M140 445 can withstand over 2W
what are my options here on this, or what should i get this set too?

Id really like to have a nice burning laser here for the first one. Go big or go home!

My 2nd question would be how long can this laser be on running at 1.7-1.8W
and if it was set for about 2W how long can it run?

Im just trying to get some general questions about how to go about building this that I cant find.

Thanks in advance!
Cheers

You don't need that much to burn with a laser. Even setting your driver to 1A will make it burn.

What you set your driver to really depends on the host, if it has a big enough heat sink to handle the heat, if it takes cells that can handle the current draw ect... It also depends on the diode you get. Some of the less efficient diodes will die at higher currents.

Well.. 1min on 1min off with a 1.6A in the C6 Moh sells is ok..
Maybe if u are lucky and the diode is efficient, u could have a SUPER BURNER..
Get a pair of safety goggles with the laser , you will need it!

Oh deff will be getting some glasses. I found a post about someone burning his eye with his. Had to drive himself to the ER and then have to drive somewhere else just to find someone who knew what they were doing to look at his eye!

Id hate to burn my eyes!

So pretty much 1.6A is going to be a good choice with this kit that Moh provides.

It's a good current. Make sure you have the glasses. Extremely dangerous and will burn instantly even when not really focused.

hi man im building the same as yours.

i already order my JAD kit from Moh,

and the diode in the module,

i suggest you that put your driver at 1.6A for a nice 1min to 1min duty cilce

Note: if you are using an ar coated glass lenses you will get around 1.3-1.5w
if you use a 405 g 1 you will get 1.7-1.8w
