Alright I finally sat down and did this. Let me know what you think or if you see any problems or areas to improve. Thanks!

With those value resistors, it should be ABOUT 60 mA to 410 mA.

You dont need all the extra stuff ,you could add the pot to woops design if you wanted
 
wtf are you talking about toked? woops design has no high side amp so you cannot connect case to ground and negative... This does. There is no "extra" stuff...

its pretty much the same but without the pot. and i haven't calculated the resistances.

well done, it looks good
except you might want to make the 1.4ohm sense resistor smaller... you should be able to get it smaller and adjust the gain to compensate. it would increase efficiency a bit, and shouldn't affect accuracy too much. it would be a good idea to calculate the accuracy of this thing, i will have to sit down and work it out.

and you should also have a filter capacitor on the other side of the sense resistor, to stabilize the power for the LT6106

That's amazing, considering how you can barely type complete sentences on here most times. I think your last two posts in this thread are the easiest to understand that I have EVER seen you post. That is the only reason I had doubts about your ability. So - what are the extras you were talking about in that circuit ?

I do type complete sentences alot. It doesn't really matter as long as I get to the point. The Extras were the Caps I saw, But reading the lt6106 pdf shows that its better to have them.

WOOP: A high freq cap before the sense or low? like 10uF or.1uF? Also, the sense resister is .4 ohms not 1.4. Its Resistor 1, .4 ohm. I should only lose about 5 millivolts so it's good. Lemme know about those caps, thanks!


I never saw a schematic from you woop to make your own boards. Just your pcb to make your boards, thats why i was confused. Do you think sometime we could talk about how to solder this tps chip? I dont know if my etching/printer technique is precise enough to get a 10 pin 3x3mm chip soldered right. Do you think it would work??? solder paste and a toaster oven?? theyre soooooo small.

yeah i never made a schematic, too lazy  ;D
well I made schematic, but for another chip, so i just copied that.

a few uF would probably do for the amps cap

about physically making these things... i use the direct toner transfer technique, and etch in ammonium persulphate. it is accurate enough as long as you have a clean transfer. it does take a bit of trial and error. i find the hardest part is getting the toner to stick to the non stick paper.

solder paste and a toaster oven is the only way i have soldered the TPS, and i recommend it.
 
When using solder paste for these kind of chips, since they have the center pad (right?), it's best to go sparingly on the solder paste. I built one of DrLava's original driver kits, but the chip on there "floated" off the pins when I reflowed it because I had too much paste on there. I ended up getting it corrected, but in the process lifted some traces and made a mess of things :'(
 
yeah definitely take it easy on the paste. i should take some photos next time.

Same with me and my kit the traces lifted when soldering the DFN package IC
 
With these kind of chips, having a solder mask to keep the solder (and chips) in place would be very helpful... but that means either get them professionally done or put in the extra effort to create a solder mask template and spend the extra time applying solder resistant lacquer :-/
 
I use a little needle from my dads shop(injecting ink cartridges) apply solder past then I hold the IC in place with tweezers and use a paint stripper to solder it on. Then i do oven reflow for the caps and resistors

Hmm... maybe I should look into building one of these so I can use my neato hot-air rework station :) For now it's mostly just a handy heatshrinker gun ::)
