I got my "new" power meter from fleabay !!!  It's and old Scientech 362 with sensing head.  Range from 0.001 watts to 10 watts. It looks new  :)
I called Scientech to ask for a user manuel and expected crap --  Instead, they emailed me the entire book with schematics and the book for the sensor --- NO $$$.  Gotta love a company like that.

OMG -- It's like new.  If I touch the sensor with one finger for one second, I transfer 50 mW into the calorimeter and the meter goes south!   It settles back in about 5 seconds.  It will also read pulsed output in joules total.  I've got a bid on a chart recorder to connect too !!

I know 2 of your CO2 tubes cracked. Man that's a bummer. I felt bad for you.

What kind of sensor technology is it. TEC? Thermocouple? Photoresistor?
Can you post that schematic?

I'm use a radiometer (glass vacuum bulb with b/s plates that spin around on a needle)
and a stopwatch. Flintstone technology!
 
It's fun to put objects in motion with photon impact!
Dust particles don't seem to move in a 40mW beam.

My sister buys me the best Bday gifts! I think it cost $40 out of Red Box.

Just wondering.. is there some sort of predictable relationship between rpm and laser power with those?

That is a good question and there must be easy answer to figure it out with some formula.
Anyway it tells me true relative power. No nonsense with wavelenth I think.
The glass reflects some power but my lasers are not polarized so if I rotate beam axis reflection loss does not change.
When I get more lasers I'll try to formulize it.
Bearing friction VS rpm should be the only problem in the formula?

heres a quick test I did.
1W 808 rev/sec 23/10 this LD fast axis is terible. lots of power lost, didn't hit target.
40mW 532 rev/sec 3/10
 
Sorry to continue keeping this thread off-track, but...
With my radiometer it seems to make a difference where on the vanes I focus the dot (i.e. how far from center) and how large a beam diameter.
(Or I can go really tight and burn the black coating :) ).
