Greetings all,

Wanted to introduce myself, I have been a laser enthusiast since the late 70s. Anyone remember Jack Ford science projects? I had the plans on how to build a laser pistol replica. Even though it wasn't even a " real laser " I still remember the excitement I had in building that thing! More recently I built my first solid state laser ( ND YAG ) from a surplus rod, mirrors, and flashlamp. Later I discoverd the SSY1 ( actually bought two from mi-lasers ) that made things much easier. I cobbed together the power suppy from 3 Kodak max disposible cameras wired in parallel, I guess it was about half a Gillette in power:) I also have a 5mw HeNe labbie, gotta love the TRUE TEM00! And last but not least, I have gotten an apparently very good Arctic SpyderIII.

Yes it seems to have zero issues so far, and even have the improved IMR orange battery! It will start smoking dark colored wood almost instantly, from 15 feet away. However I still want more:evil: and at some point I will be building my own. The greatest satisfaction truly is building it yourself, I am still amazed how efficient, and powerfull these new blue diodes are! Anyway I hope to learn and push the envelope, of what is possible. And from what I have seen from the talant of soo many on this forum, I know I am in the right place!
Highest regards, Jim

Hi LordJet welcome to the forum, Yes you are in the right place, the guys that frequent this forum sure know there stuff.

After building your own laser and the driver to power it is thrilling compared to just buying one, you know how much work and the research you needed to do, to get it to lase and have a long life.:wave::wave:

Hello Carl! Thanks for the welcome. Those look like nice homebuilds there. Yes, having the intimate knowlege of exactly what you have put togather is PRICELESS!

Thank you all for the kind welcome, I look forward to my time here!

LORDJET Thanks, having to modify 650Nm build as the regulator used is limited to 100ma output. currently only outputting 161Ma so alot less than I first thought
