I want to take the old dilda red o-like laser apart and and take the "front" module out with the housing and lens part and wire it to a pair of AA 3.6 volt rechargable batteries in another host I am building...these batteries have around 2500ma+ to last longer and a boost in voltage too. Will this be safe for this module or will the extra reserve in ma FRY the module? NEED ADVICE!

Could a regular 9 volt battery be used to power this dilda module also with a ma of 1000ma capacity? I found one on a battery on-line store too much power???

I have a solution for you:
LOC/LCC + flex drive @ 400mA + 1 Sanyo 18650 2500mAh Battery or 1 CR123A or 1CR2.
This will have the potential be smaller and more efficient than your proposed set-up. With a hi-power lens you may get more than 300mW if you push the diode.
You can even use the diode from your dilda and just replace the driver.
If you are thinking to use 2X 4.2V LiIon cells, I wouldn't recommend it. Some have destroyed their dildas with excess voltage from these cells if IIRC.

Does the "new" style dilda unscrew at the top as well as the end cap? I would like to get the new style for it's better focusing abilities but not sure if the "battery tube" will unscrew from the module area like the old style does? Can someone who owns a new style tell me this, it's important for what I want to do with it. THANKS!

I have the newer style from O-Like. Yes the module ''diode and driver'' can be completely removed from the host as one peice.

BFM Batteries 9V Volt NiMH 300mAh Rechargeable Battery Could I use this battery to boost the mw power of the laser (I will be dissasembling it to get the module out and put it in another host...light gun for video games) and not destroy the diode? The ma of this 9 volt rechargeable is smaller than most cr2 anyway(300ma)just a highr voltage. This setup is for short pulses for burnig and not for "long term pointing". Also if this is not reasonable who can set up a flex driver to run on a 3.6-4.2 volt rechargable battery pack and still get 200mw+ from the new style dilda red laser module and cost? Please let me know. THANKS!

Primary Lithium Battery 9V 1200mAh Compatible with Energizer L522-9V / Ultralife, L522 another higher ma 9 volt but nonrechargable...may be a great "blu-ray" power suppy also. Could this one work for my prodject? The batteries that are comming with the laser are from "www.budgetgadgets.com" and are cr2 stlye rechargables 3 volt 1000ma. for a total of 6+ volts at 1000ma. this is a 3 volt plus difference for the 9volt in this thread but same ma rating.
