Completely new to the forums so please excuse any stupidity in the following message.

I am looking at a cheap laser pointer to burn with and see the beam at night. I found this one from O-like and would like to know how it would do, fully focused, on ballons and matches and what distance it would take to pop them reasonably quick. Suggestions for other lasers welcome.(Link below)

Welcome ,)

O-Like is a perfectly good company to buy your 1st laser from.
I think the unit in the link you provided is a good choice. My first was very similar.
Light a match or some incense to see the beam.
Once you feel comfortable with it, you can progress to a different colors & powers.
Get a pair of these  or equivalent. They are specifically for a red laser.
You will need them BEFORE you burn anything with your laser. I'm not kidding.

good luck, be safe

Those goggles have been tested against blue and green lasers, NOT red.
They will NOT protect you from a red laser at all.
You need a different type of goggle to protect you from that wavelength.
The lens will be blue.

And yes it should light a match or pop a balloon in a second or less.

I purchased that very unit 3 weeks ago. I received it 2 weeks ago and it is very nice (sorry didn't test it popping balloons or burning stuff yet).

I like the host it is in and it works well.

Then as DrSid mentioned there is "The Catch"!

I received my LaserBee 3.7W USB LPM and set it up and tried it out for the first time on my laser purchases of the last 6 weeks (I will be making a thread in a few days in the review section which will have the findings for all of my lasers) and of course I tried out what was claimed by o-like to be 650nm 250mW that you are looking at & I've purchased.

The "New special Burning 250mW red laser torch/focusable" from o-like had an average power of 193mW and a peak of 212mW. A little more off than the typical +/- 10% claimed by most laser makers.

It is a nice unit and maybe some of them are at 250mW (230mW @ -10%) but not the one they sent me!

Even at 200mW it's a really nice price for such host. I mean I don't really need another red laser. I don't really need another red laser. I don't really need another red laser. I don't really need another red laser ..

Those eBay glasses won't protect either. We have been over this many times in many
different threads. The Eagle Pair from Survival Lasers are what we are recommending, but
those other ones you linked to do look interesting.
