First...I kow how strange it must be for some to read that I'm looking for anything under 100 mW...but My cats absolutely LOVE chasing my 2-3mW red pointers around....

Problem is that most of these use button cells that have terrible capacity issues!

I really want a nice <5mW red that uses cells with more OOMMPPHH over the long haul, and are easier to find in the grocery store.

Something on AA preferred, but AAA is fine as well...

I was thinking about building my own...but it would be massive overkill for a cat toy!

<5mw a MUST....no Blind Kitties here!

I am going to post this in the "Red" section...If that violates any rules..Mods..please delete....

I never thought it would be this hard to find a red that has the features I need!

Thanks in advance!!

noo.. can't be...I must have misread.

:D

AtlasNova has two nice 5mW reds that run off of AAA's, The 650nm is $12 and the 635nm is ~$20 IIRC.

dealextreme has a new one and it runs off 1 AAA battery for 4$

Just use a 5mw green for pets. 5mw of green is no more harmful than 5mw of red.

Not true at all. Animal's eyes are much more sensitive to green than to red.

well then just buy a core from wicked and assuming they hold up to their usual underpowered lasers you'll get like 3mw ;D ;D

I've heard that the Cores are the most reliable, consistently up-to-spec laser WL makes, actually. I still wouldn't trust them, though.

What makes this strange is that they say animals(dogs anyway) are colour blind.

They may not necessarily be able to perceive the colour, but the photoreceptors in their eyes could still very easily be sensitive to the light.

Id go for the 635nm if I needed a low power red pointer.

Radio Shack (2AAA's) saw it there when i got the 5mw greenie there today.
but of course they want 29.00 for the damn thing which is a HUGE rip off....but i guess if you really want it. for that price though i can go to the flea market by me and buy 15 red keychain lasers....with batts for the same price!
