EDIT: Thanks, I've decided on a laser.

Hello,

I've been looking into lasers lately and want to buy a safe one for fun (indoors and outdoors). I don't want to burn things with this, and want one that doesn't require safety googles. (I won't be pointing it at reflective surfaces, or looking directly at it.) I have cats in my house and wouldn't want them to accidently get harmed by this. (Although I will be carefull.)

I'd really like one that has a clear bright dot at a long range (200 meters). It would also be nice if the beam was visible in low light conditions such as night time with streetlights on, if this isnt possible (the visible beam) while remaining safe then that's fine I suppose.

I've been looking into various 532nm green lasers, but really don't know how much power I should get, maybe 30mw? I don't want one that will last a week then stop working.
My price range could go up to about 50$, and I live in Canada if that matters.

EDIT: I'm going to go with a 30mw, but I cant decide because there are so many:

Thanks alot in advance.

By the way, anything over 5mW you should be using safety goggles.

As for the laser I personally think this laser is a bit better
www.rayfoss.com

I own both a power rock from o-like and a Rayfoss laser and you would be much happier with the quality of this laser. I'm not saying the power rock isn't a nice host though.

NEVER MIND, just saw that those are sold out.

Save you a lot of time and trouble. Go to cajunlasers.com. LPForum member Clif has a 50mW green for $39.99 that looks nice and works well and takes AAA batteries, so no investing in a new battery or charging system. Also no China hassles (slow shipping, dishonesty) and you'll have a great green pointer that will do everything you want. You will probably get it this week.

50mw 532nm chrome pen laser [532PN50] - $39.99 : Cajunlasers Store

P.S. Poloniums rayfoss laser is nice, but consider that it will be coming from China, probably won't ship until after the Chinese new year and may be over a month getting here, plus it takes a relatively unusual battery.

It is probably a nicer overall pointer though. Your call....
