Recently I noticed that my ipod suddenly got very hot while it was on and stayed hot for a while. It got freezy, slow, and started showing the dead hard drive symbol(I think it was the dead hard drive symbol) just before it heated up. I shut it off and put it away(It didnt cool down until the next day). Its been about a week and I tried to turn on. Surprisingly it did turn on but no matter how long I leave it on the charger (Its been like a day) it keeps displaying the charge symbol. It never displays the fuly charged symbol. Im thinking its a damaged battery possibly a bad harddrive. What do you guys think?

You're gonna end up sending it to Mac anyways, it seems to be the batt. but I really don't know.

Im trying to diagnos the problem myself so I can fix it. I dont have $250 to spare.

You cant get it fully open without removing the battery wire. Im assuming its the battery now because Im getting really really bad battery life. I think the battery is also not taking a full charge thats why the charge icon wont go away.

Getting really hot and not being able to spin the drive up sounds like a possible battery issue. No moisture or anything? does it click or whir when trying to start?

It does turn on but no matter how long I leave it on the charger the charging icon never goes away.

if any component is getting hot it uses more energy so the fact it has a short battery life doesnt mean its the battery getting hot.

and i dont know what you mean about the battery wire, i pulled mine apart, ipod in 1 hand, steel case in the other.
