I'm new. I successfully built a 405nm 150mw laser and driver and it's in an aixiz module. My question is why does the laser spread out past about 1 inch? How do I make it into a beam? Do I have the wrong kind of laser diode? I want my beam to go for miles not an inch lol.

Do you have a lens? If not get one. If you do then you need to focus it. Screw it in or out of the module until the laser forms a beam. Be careful when adjusting the focus as you can also focus it to a tiny point which can set things on fire.
I have tried all the way in and out and on 2 different housings and 2 different diodes. After about at about a foot away it is as big around as a dinner plate lol.
Here is a video if it burning some electrical tape. If I had it any further away the dot would get big quick.
Also when I found these housings on ebay I just searched for "laser diode housing" not "aixiz housing."

In that case the lens may not be getting close enough to the diode to focus.
What lens do you have?
Also, is there a possibility it is in backwards?
