Need help building laser pointer

So i just bought a 50mw laser diode module and i also have an empty laser pointer shell (it has a battery) the laser module fits perfectly in the shell but for some reason the laser pointer wont turn on. The laser module is listed in the links section. But im using a BTL 18650 6000 mAh 3.7V battery. Oh and lastly the module had a red and blue wire but I stripped them cause they were no use. Is the module not compatible with the battery?! What did i do wrong
 





Do you have a link to the module? What host are you using? Pictures of how you've set it up (Host, wiring, battery polarity, all that nice stuff)? You aren't giving us much to go on here.

So basically i just slid the module into the hole on the shell so the spring from the module was touching the battery and then i put the cap on

What way did you put the battery in? Is the shell making good electrical contact with the module? You should a read dead short (or very close) between any point on the shell/host and the brass case of the module when testing with a multimeter.



Edit... Again, pictures of how you have it set up would be helpful.

Edit 2: Also possible that your Li-Ion cell is giving the module too much voltage. Unprotected Li-Ion cells do 4.2V on a full charge. The module needs only 3V.

That is not a 50mW laser diode module, it is a DPSS module, these come in 3V and 5V, this one is a 3V, notice the button on the driver. This is specifically made for use in a pen host that uses 2 AAA batteries, that button turns it on and off. If you connect it to a 3V source you can test it to see if it still works. These are always case positive, if you reverse polarity it's toast.

If your using an 18650 battery that host must have a tail switch or other type. That link is showing a module with a momentary switch that you might need to bridge.

Oh yeah like Pi said 3.7 to 4.2V will likely be to much.
If your still set on this host Fastech has these modules in 5V form for around $6 rated at 5mw but are closer to 80mw. Just a thought.

So the module has good contact with the battery cause i can feel the tension when screwing on the cap but here is pictures of the setup oh wait i cant upload pictures from my phone as their not the rigjt format

Can someone give me a link to a host that would work with this module im not looking to spend more than $15
 
What does what mean? And your pictures aren't working.

Again - what way did you have the battery in?

So the positive side of the battery is facing toward the bottom of the shell where the button is the negative (flat side) is facing towards the module

OK - that's the correct way around. So you have a button on the tail cap - which I'm assuming you want to use to turn the laser on/off.

What about the switch on the module? There's a little micro-switch on the driver (going by the pictures on the listing) that'd need to be closed for the module to turn on - unless it came shorted out from the factory so that you don't need to press it - I doubt that though.

Be careful, the 3.7-4.2V from your Lithium battery may fry the module. They don't usually have wide tolerances so you're best sticking with the specified 3V.
