So a wile back I did a group buy for these diodes and when I posted the pics people were disappointed because they thought they were single mode.

well at selem I Compared one of these diodes to a Pl450 single mode diode and was stunned to find that these diodes had ever so slight better specs.

From left to right are as follows Pl450, 594nm HeNe, and NDB7242E

Dr Sam who was at the event said these diodes are most likely single mode despite what the spec sheet says.

I am ashamed to say I did not take distance measurements :(.

Yesterday I finally completed putting my NDB7242E diode into a pen laser host. I have it set at approximately 80mA. I tried to measure the divergence at ~200ft and the NDB7242E was twice the size of my 450nm laser BTB (same one used in laserman121's picture).

Here's the data.
It looks like I got my NDB7242E diode at 0.96mR. And my BTB laser is at 0.54mR.
I'm not sure I got the diode optimally focused so I'll try again tonight to see if I can get it better.

What lens did you use.
The 3 elements get better divergence.

I'm using the basic acrylic lens that comes with the modules.

I just did a another test at 165ft and got 0.6mR for the NDB7242E diode and 0.4mR for my 450nm BTB.
I'll try the 3-element 445 coated lens and report back.
I think I'll also try to measure the beam diameter at something like 800ft

Any updates have you had time to try a 3 element glass lens.
