Ok so start by letting X=1
Therefore
X[sup]2[/sup]=X
Subtract 1 from both sides
(X[sup]2[/sup]-1)=(X-1)
Difference of two squares
(X+1)(X-1)=(x-1)
Cancel out (X-1) and we have
(X+1)=1
Substitue 1 back in place of X and...
2=1
