My projector build WIP

hahaha you and me both things - I'm there every other second day buying bits and pieces.

i never get to go to jaycar, a few times a year if im lucky, and its a day trip :D
ever since DSE got rid of all electronics i had to use the interwebs for parts :(
 
Our local jaycar has some cool knowlegable guys there - they seem to know where all the bits and pieces are - once I couldnt find the "assorted heatshrink pack" and the guy made a beeline right for it.

On the subject of bees and flying things, one of them was playing with a cute little IR RC helicopter. Christmas decorations were up and he wasnt the quickest on the stick. Needless to say that helicopter was stuck for the rest of the day near the roof entangled in christmas decorations. Pity jaycar doesnt sell laser diodes (of any decent power :P)
 
heres an update,
i bolted my galvo drivers to the case, turns out i dont need the rubber foam now because i failed at measuring the holes so now the drivers dont rest on the foam.

I might actually scrap the idea of using the 6u case, and just park the lappy in a home made tray under the projector. Those 2U cases look really good. So I might go to jaycar and get one for the big projector :)
 
yeah i love this little case, even has earthing bolts on the pannels
 
Update: Heres the projector so far,

i now need to buy a RIYA DAC then ait for the laser to arrive :)
 
Well looks like you are making good progress there TTerbo - I'm just about ready to go to LSP and order my first parts - the $135 dichro set and a 400mw 640nm laser (getting the most expensive laser first).

Gonna go 400mw of red, 300mw of green and 400mw of 445. The 400mw 640 laserwave seems to have had the teething issues fixed, so am gonna go with that - dont have the mechanical skills to put together a quad LOC which at 1 watt is what I'll need to equal a 400mw 640.

What galvo's are you using? I'm thinking of getting the DT40 wides after I grab the green laser.

My galvos are Spacelas 25k,
im still trying to find someone to buy dichros from, or a nice store price :)

i got my aixiz labby in the mail today, so i decided to test it out,

 
I assume this is just your test laser and your gonna bung a 1000mw greenie in there? :whistle:

Looking good - now feed those galvo's a signal and get that beam moving (I assume you dont have your DAC yet?) :)
 
Since my Audiolase dont work with my OS i had to order a RIYA DAC, its in the mail get that next week...and unfortunaly i dont have enough money to get DICHROS! so i dont think i will be getting a 1W 532 in there anytime soon ;)
i hope you like the ghetto laser setup and the messy wiring ;)
 
Looks a lot tidier than the guts of my ugly duckling 1 watt 445 labby portable! :)

Some zip ties will tidy that mess up nicely. This is one of the wonderful things about my other hobby, rc helicopters - I have loads of zipties. You use a lot on a model - dont want your gyro or servo wires getting sucked up into 2500rpm rotors.

So I have a plastic drawer of all lengths and sizes :)

edit: added zipties and corrected dyslexic fingers!

Too inspired by TTerbo's work, I've just ordered my DT40Wides, and my dichros from LSP. Work on THOR has begun :)

that was the only music on my laptop at the time.
Securing everything properly tomorrow, then fogging up the garage tomorrow night for a beamshow :D

Well done mr - glad you got it working finally, isnt it a thrill to see the first show from your first projector?!?! :)

My DT40W's havent shown up yet :sad:

just to annow you, this is what a beamshow looks like with a RGBV projector (mine :P)



hehe I love this show - cant wait to scan it with 1.3-1.5 watts with the 40W's

So get off your hind quarters, fog up the garage, and show us what that projector of yours can do in regards to beams :) (yes, you guessed, I LOVE beamshows)
