Dear Laserfreaks out there

After some time of Laser-absence, I've got a new toy, it's a HeNe with yellow beam. It came in the original packaging and I think it has been more or less unused. Manufacturing date was Oct 2006 according to a sticker.

Here some pics:

...and some pics of the beam, together with a 473nm DPSS-Lab-Laser:

Oh gosh, lucky! Try combining those two beams, you should get white :)

Awesome! Very nice pictures.
What is its power?

Some day I hope to get a yellow HeNe.. might be a while though. Until then I'll just enjoy all the pictures:D

Very nice :) Lasos has some great tubes. welcome to the yellow gas club. there's a nice Coherent/Melles Griot one up on ebay atm too for not a bad 'new' price. How much was yours? seems the average price of a red of that size is about 150 bucks green is 150-200 and yellow and orange are in the 500-700 range.

Very nice! Love the yellow spectrum  welcome to the yellow club too

What a beauty! I have that exact same power supply with mine, works great. Indeed, welcome to the 594.1nm Club!

Awesome pics. While expensive the yellow wavelengths are so unique they're worth the cost. Love those prisms too. Going to have to get some like that sometime.

Wow, many thanks for all your answers! I didn't think this would so many reactions :-)

The costs for the complete system were 152 CHF, which is about 158 Dollar. It is rather expensive, compared with argon lasers for example, even though argon lasers are more complicated technology in my opinion.

Anyway, I was looking for a yellow HeNe for about 7 years, and the day has come now. Thanks again for all your kind answers.

Best regards
argon

$158 USD!!! for the 594nm HeNe???:eek: Is it POSSIBLE to get it THAT cheap?? That's somewhere around one third of the normal price!
If that's right, then I want an explanation.:D

EDIT: Maybe you meant $518?:D

Mattronium, you must be joking ;-) Just for a simple toy this is enough money. It was an auction at ricardo.ch, a swiss auction line, something similar like Ebay. At first it started at 50 CHF, but then it got higher and higher. Honestly, I wouldn't spend much more than this. Anyway, it is in good condition and I like it :D

What do you think, guys, is it possible to get some more lines with an external mirror? Would be nice to get the 612nm line.

Very best regards

Not likely to get orange, though it's not impossible....you'd more likely get red. Orange has some more than unique mirrors sadly. And they're not cheap. The line is small and so close to many others it has a lot of competition. Orange tubes are odd in a lot of ways. Almost every one I've seen has a bug of some kind. And you might need access to both ends of the tube for that experiment.

Wow, that is a STEAL of a price! I paid $550 for mine and that was considered cheap for 4.1mW N.O.S. condition.

As UK states you can almost always coax red out of just about any tube given the right mirrors, but to get orange is a feat. It certainly can be done though. I discussed this with Dr. Sam after I got mine and more often than not you need to be able to access and align an external mirror to the Anode (HR) end.
