Yeah, this is my new build today
I use NUBM08 diode
This host is brass and copper heatsink,i use boost driver from astralis set at 3.2a
iIuse a G7 lens and 1 g-ball lens i was decaned from a M08 diode died
everything is great,so i show some pictures

OHH I see, you kept the GBall intact and used a backwards GBall from another diode and then a G7 Yes that will work, or you can use a backwards G2 after the intact GBall then your G7 and I know that works very well.

Did you use O-rings to hold the 2nd GBall ? You can get threaded 12mm sleeves from Lifetime17 or make your own 16mm - 18mm depending on final lens IIRC and use a backwards G2 then your G7 and it all screws together nicely and will fit into a 12mm heat sink hole attached to a 12mm module.

It's funny I remember talking about using a 2nd backwards GBall long ago but people said it wouldn't work LOL never say never :D

Here's drawing I made last year.

I want to confirm that they work very effectively, they give beams with a divergence of 5.5mrad (I have measured) ,

It's like your drawing, I'm definitely active

Your beam shots turned out quite violet looking. That would indicate that the wavelength is likely ~445nm. Seems like you have gotten it to focus well enough in the near field. That is interesting the way you used another ball lens to diverge the beam enough to get it to focus with the G7. I wonder if it would not look better if you used a G2 instead of the G7 as you might get less clipping with the shorter focal length lens.

It looks very good, nice size in the hand too. (y)
thank you,

My camera has a problem in color display, I chose another g-ball lens to do beam divergence because I haven't done it before, it's a pretty interesting experience ,

g2-g7 is still the best choice, since g-ball lenses have never been abundant in my inventory.

I think the clipping can be reduced and perhaps eliminated by using wider diameter lenses. But for some strange reason it seems no one is aware the selection of available lenses goes well beyond G types.

I agree that there are lots of lenses of wider diameter. The problem is that we don't have modules and housings readily available to us to use with them. That means it would require machining of new modules and lens housings and likely heat sinks too in order to take advantage of them. I think that is why many here fall back on the 9 mm housings for the 6.3 mm lenses available already for us.

I recently received 8mm FL 6.3mm aspheric and 4mm FL 6.3mm aspheric and tested them, the G7 was superior to the Chinese 8mm FL 6.3mm aspheric when using a NUBM44 as the LPM reading was higher and clipping was less, also clipping with the GBall and backwards G2 was minimal ( I thought it would be worse )

What lens testing and what results have you found, I am ready to be educated and willing to buy more lenses, I also just bought some 2mm FL 6.2mm lenses that turned out to be those garbage thick lenses that came with 130 series diodes, I had hoped that the 4mm FL lenses would be quite good but they are really just G2's as the EFL is really around 2.5mm

So if you have a listing at amazon or elsewhere for some actual 4mm FL 6.3mm aspheric glass I would like to buy and test it but so far they have been G2's

EDIT

Paul I buy lens holders M9x0.5 from ebay and DTR when he has them and the 16/18mm long 12mm wide brass inside threaded couplers from Rich and that allows for pretty good testing, my problem has been getting actual 4mm EFL lenses from China as they send G2's labeled 4mm FL and I think they are intentionally mixing up the EFL and rear FL

Yes wider lenses I have but Paul is correct, modules and lens holders for other size lenses are not available for cheap, each has to be hand made and although I have a bucket load of scavenged lenses finding VIS AR coated glass for sale is not that easy or cheap, this is why we do workarounds with what we have.

I, too, have purchased some empty lens housings for the 6.3 mm lenses. I do have some loose lenses that size that I intend to mount and try out.

I told Alaskan I would try a much larger aspheric and put one on a slide to focus set up, it works but is not convenient/comfortable or practical for adjustment and carry and not as good as simpler solutions such as existing lens and beam expanders.

Beam shaping 1st is the best way so far by far that I have used, also do you want a tight beam or tight spot at distance ?

Wider dia. lenses have a place but what testing have you done and what results do you have ?

Is that a Dell M6800 laptop you've got that new laser sitting on? Sweet (big) little laptop, I have the same one :) One time I had it on a table with a monitor plugged in via the VGA port on the back.. I accidentally knocked it off the table and it landed on it's back facing straight up (with all it's weight above it), rather than breaking the port off the main board it broke the molding of the cable off the plug portion of the cable, the laptop was untouched! Also, awesome build on the laser!
