After getting called into work yesterday Eve "July 4th", I barely got back in time to meet my family as they sat about a mile away watching the fireworks go off.

I got there about 3/4 way through the big event and I sat down in an lawn chair my wife had brought.
I pulled out my Herc and proceeded to do a quick blast in the air as a crowd of maybe 300 people were behind me watching the works in the distance.

As I fired it off at the horizon and slowly beamed it straight up, I immediately heard tons of comments eg: Check that out!... Whoa.. did you see that?... look at that dad!... whats that?... thats so cool!".. on and on until I turned it off in about 30 seconds.
I shot it at the ground once and some kid behind me waiting with anticipation said "shoot it in the sky!"

I had several people come and ask me where I got it... of course I had to give laserglow a plug and I commented to my son-in-law "wait until they see what it cost!".... LOL!

I also heard one dad scold his son as he said "Stop looking at the laser and watch the fireworks!... LOL!"....

sorry to steal the show!..... Well not really!.....
I politely took the hint and turned it off till the event was over as I was embarrassing my wife which is quite easy to do...... ;D

One guy came up and asked how powerful it was as he stated... you know how many watts or candlepower, or whatever, he said... I told him to put his hand in front of the beam for a second and he could tell me!... a quick pass through the beam, he said he could feel the heat and decided he didn't need to test any further!..... LOL!

I meant to see if I could lite a gunpowder wick with the beam, but never got the chance.

Did anyone else have fun with their laser on the 4th and steal the show?

I stole the show at the fireworks in my neighborhood. All I used was my 75 mW WL. I tried not to use it so muc h because the kids were all like LOOK A GREEN THING<THERE IT IS AGAIN! LOL ;D

It was especially cool in the left over smoke!

Oh, HELL YA I DID ! :-) HAHAHAHAHAHA !

I shone it throughout the neighborhood - making peeps from blocks over go - WTF ???? HAHAHAHAHAHA !!! It was a blast !

Ya me too!!!
I was at my cousin lighting off big motars and stuff when I brought out my fuson and everbody was going crazy over it!! It was so funny ;D

I also stole the show. We have a huge show put on by the VFW. They purchase several thousands of dollars worth of fireworks and shoot them off on a slag pile left over from a smelter in a small town 5 miles from helena. all through the show I was shining the BFG in every imaginable direction even onto the smoke left over from the shells being shot over 1/2 mile away by the vfw. It illuminated the smoke and everyone would look around. I got a call from a co-worker 3 miles away who was watching the show from a different location ask me if it was me shining my laser on the smoke. hehehe. I then drove around the town for 1/2 hour shining the laser into everyone's smoke left over getting all kinds of points and oooohs and wow's. Cops everywhere were pointing to me and driving right on past. I love the 4th.

Well after my wife chastised me, I'm certainly glad to see I'm not alone!

They have a way of making you think you're crazy when your not!!!!! :D

Ah yes, I forgot to mention that after I went home and changed clothes, I went in the backyard and pointed it the direction of where I knew the crowd was gathering.... maybe 3 - 4 miles and I called my wife on the cellphone, I got up on my slide by my pool to get as high as I could and I lowered it as low as I could to the horizon and she said it was beaming right over everyones heads!.... so naturally when I got there and did it up close for real.. the crowd was already ecstatic from the prior beaming!

There was a small plane "prob taking pictures" that kept circling over the main event, so I was limited to shining it over that direction for fear someone would freak out just for getting it close.

LOL!... I wonder if my laser made it into the newspaper?

I was trying very hard not to shine the laser into the big show when the fireworks  were "going off" to not interfere with everyone's viewing pleasure and only shone it when there was no fireworks.  I'd like to think I was "adding" to the effect and not detracting from it.  I donno how many times I've gone to a concert or a movie and some jerk is shining his red laser onto the show right in the middle of the performance/movie.  I didn't wanna be that jerk.  I wanted to increase the effect not detract from it.  Although I'm sure my 130mw's was in no way shape or form as impressive as a HERC.  LOL

I carry my BFG with me everywhere I go and constantly have to "explain" it's uses and benefits to everyone. "what is that thing for? what good is it?" Luckily when it's dark I can actually use it to show it's use for astronomy and point out a few constelations. It's kind of funny too cause every time I show someone where the little dipper is they always respond with "wow, I've never actually been able to find that constellation and without that big cool laser I'd have never seen it!"

Yep, hard to find that balance between adding to verses taking from.... some folks wanted the laser as they had seen tons of fireworks every year and this was no different, but they have never seen such a laser before, others I'm sure may not have been impressed and saw it as a distraction or maybe even jealous.... who knows... some people just hate other folks with cool toys! ;D

But second thought... if your really "Stealing the show".. I guess your taking away!

Yea when I first got my x65 and showed it to some of my friends. Most of them said it was stupid and what was the point?
So I lit a few matches and burned some black plastic. Out came their real question then, CAN I SEE IT? Of course I told them no, why would you want to see something stupid and pointless :)

Oh yeah I went to the beach and whipped out my Phoenix (80mW) It was awesome. Everyone was freaking out because it looked amazing in the sky.
People kept coming up to me asking where I ot it and what it was. It was hilarious because there were some people on a porch in a hotel with a red 5mw, so I shone my Phoenix on the roof of their balcony and it lit up the entire porch. They freaked out.
