My blue 445/447nm laser is extremely dim now

This laser was really bright (supposedly 1000mw, probably 700mw), and would in the past make little noises when heating up (little squick noises and would get narrow sounding as it stayed on). It in the past would be really dim at times when I would turn it on and a quick tap on the wrist would bring it back to normal. Now, it is stuck at extremely dim. Pictures are attached (Still003 the one that works, Still002 is the dim one against the wall......On. :'[ ), what is wrong with it? Is there any easy fix or do I have to get a new diode/driver?

Driver or more specifically resistors are fried up due to extensive duty cycles, this looks like a 45s on 45s off chinese 1W laser.. You will have to let someone open it up and see if the existing driver can be fixed or you can contact the company to repair it for you and get a repair quote beforehand..
 
It will be better if you send it for a repair , doing it yourself would be very difficult if you have no experience with the laser basics, and yeah that driver would work just fine.
 
did you say you tap it and it gets brighter, it could be driver shorting and or a tail switch issue. I have had tons of lasers I had to tap to get to work, replacing the clicky seems to fix it 70% of the time. not saying reaplace the switch first, you should learn to trouble shoot it with a DIMM before you replace it.
 
Good idea, try bypass the switch with some metal shorting the battery end and the host. And see if that fix the problem.
 
I just changed the tail switch, that wasn't the problem. Also, what do you by that Blord? I am trying different variations of what I think you mean but am not really understanding. I just put a dime in, if that was close lol.... oh wait now nothing is turning on

Like TheReddish said, you may have a tail switch problem. That is why I asked you to test the laser without the switch.
 
Okay I just put the tail switch from the broken one onto the working one, isn't working you guys were right. But now when I put the working tail switch onto the laser that is not working properly and then give it some tapes, the regular bright beam comes back only for a split second in between taps. So is there something with the laser's connection to the positive (the host)?
 
Sounds like the connections are dirty. Take a pencil eraser and clean all the contacts including the threads. Batteries too.
 
Tried it, it would have to be the driver's connection to the positive host at this point, right? And I just fixed the other end cap (the spring for the button was compressed) so that works now.
 
positive host on a 445nm? I stand confused, check the contact board for the terminal, take a #2 pencil and use the eraser to clean the area that makes contact with the positive terminal on your battery, a cold solder joint will look dark and dull, a good one is shiny unless its dirty or has flux on it, make sure the outside ring of the contact plate has a good connection with the host, and check the tension ring on the tail switch it should not be loose. If all else fails it could be a driver but if it is I don't see how bumping it would help, the bumping thing tells me its either a intermittent short or a intermittent open.
 
Well I won't be able to check the driver for another week when I get back from college, I'll be sure to check for any problems then, thanks
