So I worked out a deal to build a laser for another forum-member, (the particulars of the deal are unimportant), but I as built this laser, I took several pictures, so I thought I would share them here also.
The build is not really anything too exotic, the host uses 3x10440(AAA-sized rechargable lithium batteries), which supply over 9-volts of power for the DDL circuit, and the 803T diode.
I essentially followed the same path originally laid-out in a great how-to done by Jayrob, read up on some of his great info starting here:http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1204144556 , and of course the original MXDL tutorial by Daedal:http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1186966870.
My only twist is that I used a "Plug-n-Play DDL Driver" from AMK-death, originally posted here: http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1204612696/0#0
I had to do some machining to the "pill" from the host to accept the driver, but once it was hot-glued in place, it was soild and very "neat".
Before anyone asks, yes I did machine my own heat-sink, obviously very much like Jayrob's. I wanted to finish this project this weekend, and I did not have time to order one or I would have, Jayrob's prices and qaulity are unmatched. I spent a couple of hours making just the one, so let see, at $50/hr x 2hrs = :-/ I will not be making any more.
The final current was set to 100mA, and according to my meter, it is putting out about 78-80mW, pops ballons, lights matches, all the good-stuff.
This is not a tuturial, more like a slide-show, I hope you enjoy.
