Guys, I was just wondering... Is it possible to mount one of the diodes in the group buy Senkat is organising right now inside an existing laser pointer??

Since the one I bought died on me I thought it would be cool to make a new one out of it.

I guess using its circuitboard is out of the question, since it is a green laser and the IR diode used in such is of a much too high output right??

Mounting a red laser diode inside a green laser pointer is almost worthless. Since the green has crystals and whatnot that it goes through it's pointless to put it in the housing unless you remove those crystals. Removing the crystals would not be enough as the focusing lens is put in a completely different spot of a green than it is in a red. So focusing it to a point would be almost impossible. now don't get me wrong. It probably can be done but would be very very difficult. It's much easier to just go with the plans in the post above on how to build your own dvd diy red burning laser.
Hope that helps.
