How hard is it for a total noob to mount a open can diode in an AixiZ module? i saw someone saying one time thats its real easy to break the diode wile mounting it. basically what im asking is what is my risk of breaking the diode if ive never mounted one in an AixiZ module? my funds are very limited right now so i really cant afford to be breaking diodes.

Thanks

It's not so hard, just get a vice and do this: (pic by rog8811)

You can also watch this video Kenom made on how to build a dorcy laser, he shows how to press fit the diode like in the pic above. ;)

This is an excellent way. I also use it and have yet to crush a diode. The diode goes in very easily. Just make sure that the diode starts straight. If it starts at an angle, it can jam.

Oh man I suck! I sat there tapping in my diode... Thats definatley the right way to do it.

Hey guys, I'm having problems getting the original 5mW diode out of the AixiZ housing. What's the best tool/way to remove it?

Thanks.

Unscrew the lens and place the face of an allen key end about the same size as the top of the diode can in it. Then rest the entire thing (with the back on) on a hard surface and whack the allen key with something while you're holding the long end. (short end in the hole) I find a screwdriver is usually hefty enough; you just need to give it a tap.
