Anyone know what the most powerfull production pen sized laser is? Any color is fine, but no IR, only counts if it is filtered properly. I thought I saw some reds that were over 200mw, but I can't really remember how big they were. :-?

So far, all the talk has been about the 200 mW pen laser advertised by DealExtreme. No one has seen one yet to measure its output - green and other.
There is a lot of doubt that a 200 can be put into a pen and use AAA cells.

Hercs are the strongest portable greenies I know of at >500mW. I haven't seen any really strong reds, but I can purchase 900mW 660nm modules that could very easily be made portable. There is also someone on LC currently hoping to make a >200mW blue portable for himself in the upcoming months.

Psuedo - how much are those diodes ? Most likely WAY outta my range....but cannot hurt to ask !

It's possible to get a >400mW 808nm pen-style laser. 808nm is near-IR and shows up as a faint red dot even though it is over 400mW. On a digital camera the dot shows up as a blinding white spot, which it actually IS but our eyes just don't see 808nm very well. And yes, it will burn most dark coloured materials.

To get back on topic, do we have any consensus on the most powerful production PEN sized laser (roughly the size of a leadlight)??? I would imagine that efficiency would be the most critical part here. That means green DPSS is probably out as a leading contender. Any thoughts? Looks like IR is the best bet for power, but he specified no IR. What about visible (easily visible) wavelengths?

Well - would the "glowtorch" model be considered as pen-style ? It's a little bit bigger than a leadlight, so I guess the cutoff - other than the DX lasers would have to be the 125mw CNI, Dragon, or Wicked models....

Moderator - care to chime in here??? I was assuming that you meant leadlight sized - maybe I misunderstood as well.

Yeah, I kinda meant leadlight size. Not sure how much bigger glowtorches are.
