woohoo that's pretty cool! 24x diodes.. Multi-modes means that it consist of several diodes?

Multi-mode still means its a single diode, but the lasing area has a cross section larger than the wavelength resulting in serveral transverse output modes lasing at ones. This large area makes collimating the beam more difficult (easily demonstrated in any optical simulation), and also degrades other typical laser properties (monochromaticity, coherence).
