modifying Nerf Nite Finder EX-3?

Hasbro claims that the Nerf Nite Finder EX-3 uses laser targeting, but the "laser" is actually an LED. I don't have one, but I'm wondering if it's possible to modify it so that it uses a real laser, such as a 1 mW laser diode, or even a 5 mW green laser module!

Has anyone ever actually done something like this?

yeah, it should be very easy.

measure the voltage their giving the LED, if its b'n 2.5-4 volts you can get a $5 aixiz module and put it in. Should be ~4-5mw.

My little bro has one of them. I was wondering if it was possible to focus the light more and add a white LED and somehow make a white laser?

white laser = many thousands of $$. sure you can add a white LED, but 'somehow make a white laser' don't work.

it's just a matter of taking the laser "chip" and assembly out of this and replacing it with an aixiz module with a laser diode in it. simple as that. I've already got plans to put a 5mw pointer in here instead of the 1mw chip that's in there.

As far as nerf guns go. I did modify a normal nerf gun and put a green laser in it.

is it using a weak diode? when i took it apart it just looked like a red LED? why wouldnt it be possible to put in a white one and have a white beam of light?? I think im gunna try it.

I was an led in there. I hadn't actually taken it apart that far. So as far as switching it out for a white one, You could. Although why you would want to change it out to a white led when it could be a true laser is beyond me. I plan on getting a module from DX with crosshairs and putting that inside. Using the magnifying lens that is in there for moving the spot should allow for aiming it.
