Does anybody know if it is legal to bring laser diode modules over 1mw into AUSTRALIA

THe best way to find out is to contact your local Customs Office
and ask them...

As far as I know I believe it is illegal to import Laser pointers >1mw
into Australia..

Yes, it is legal.

Anything that's not handheld (pointers, pens) is legal.

I stand corrected... the Australian Laws seem to be for
Laser POINTERS only...
