--posted this in LSLF...thought I'd post it in open forum, too--
Got to meet the epic Mr. Hakzaw over the weekend of the 9th! He stayed with us for a few nights on his pilgrimage northward to SELEM. Very cool guy! If you get the chance to meet him, don't pass!
A baggage snafu by Greyhound left us one box of laser goodies short until they could get it to Dallas from where it was left in Houston. It arrived, and we picked it up on Sunday, which left us with precious little time to peruse ALOT of stuff before he continued his sojourn Monday morning.
Much fun was had!! LASER OVERLOAD! Little to no sleep was to be found, and LOTS of coffee was consumed! I also got to run my grubby little paws over a VERY NICE projector (from the looks of it inside and out, it's a dead ringer for the X-Lasers Skywriter Chroma Mini without the re-badging or huge pricetag!), and play around with Pangolin Quickshow. All in all, a very quality bit of kit, both the projector and the software! Now I have a particular song I want to build a show around, dammit!
Also got some SWEET ass Lumia glass (hey...do I see a new brand to be built up? "Hak's Sweet Ass Lumia Glass"! ), one of his 1/3RPM motors, and a few torture tubes from the Hakster. He's such a generous guy! Also came away with a really odd optics cube, an "X-cube", which I'll be happily paying his asking price for when he rolls back through after SELEM. Got many other goodies as well...a little red diode, some very nice heavy duty SPDT switches, some Aixiz 3-element lenses, one of their new broadband coated single element lenses (which I'll be posting an LPM comparison graph of -vs- the standard 405-G2), an aluminum module mount, a couple of diode modules, a nice glass starburst (Matrix?) diffraction grating, and a couple of aluminum oversized focus rings.
While he was here, we had a small pop-up LEM with LarryDFW. Also got to meet his ride to SELEM, Rick (I think that's right). Congrats to him and his wife...they just bought their dream home!
Well....enough rambling. Suffice it to say that if you ever get a chance to hang with Hak...JUST DO IT! You won't be disappointed!
That is all,
G
