I was impressed with this video, which shows how Nasa scientists have been able to make magnetic field lines visible. It looks a lot like the time exposures we took of laser "manual spirographs" at the Toronto Laser meet in some places. :D

A fascinating movie nevertheless, via Gizmodo.

Wow! :o I don't know what to say. :P I wonder what else the government has that we don't know about. ::)

It's not real, but still cool and shows how a magnetic field would be :)

Hehehe... ;D

Guys, the origin link clearly says "Animated photographs, using sound-controlled CGI and 3D compositing" under "Technical information".

These folks are merely illustrating the actively changing geometries of magnetic fields with CGI to help people visualize them as constantly changing and not static as is commonly believed. This does not make this "fake". Visualization is a valuable tool to help us understand phenomena that we cannot see directly with our eyes. These field effects can be "seen" on a massive scale in the plasma of the sun's corona, where huge arcs loop and twirl with incredible energies. This video is merely a way of illustrating that common magnetic fields here on earth are also vibrantly active when interacting.

I posted this video not as some scientific proof of concept, but because it's beautiful. A sinusoidal dance of electrons and fields. It's not meant to be "real". It's meant to be appreciated as art. Geeky art... but art nonetheless. :D

Hence the Picard for me not noticing. :-[

Don't sweat it roSSco... looking at my original post, I did make it sound like it was actual video of glowing field lines.

And now I am "hoist by my own petard" (or should that be Picard... :D ;D)
