Are you referring to this host:

Yes, in this host your driver should have the spring at the back for (+) connection. The (-) in my build is coming via the heatsink and the diode.
I can post a pic of my driver if you want.

Yes, (-) is connected to the heatsink. Your diode is case (-), so your heatsink is too. No, my batteries are the 3.0V type (3.6V full, 2.0V empty).
