Hi!
I'm going to build stcs2 based driver for 445nm. I choosed it because it has low vdrop - I'm going to power it from 2x li-ion. I found schematic in datasheet:

I think it's suitable for laser diodes, isn't it? I want to make the circuit as simple as possible, without pcb. Are Rin, Cbyp and Cdrain needed? I didn't find any description for them. Removing them would save me some space. Also, do You know any simple reverse-polarity protection? I thought about shottky diode but it would incrase vdrop.

Well i built and worked with these alot.
You can get away with not having them but danger lurks if you do.
i built one without a professional pcb back when i was testing them.
here is a pic it is single sided.

Ok, thanks for help. I've ordered these chips and they will arrive this week

again i warn you that lasers like very clean power with no spikes and nasty things, caps help keep everything in check not only for the laser but for the ic as well.
if you have a o-scope do some tests with it before you put it to a laser if you find its not working right or are getting nasty results start by adding the cin cap then the rin then cdrain.

Okay, my driver is finished. I only removed cdrain, rin and cin are on their places. Output looks stable (I don't have an oscilloscope, just dmms :( ) hovewer after turning on the current quickly drops from 1.5A to 1.3A and is stable then (+- 5ma). Is this normal?
