Hey, I am looking into buying a red laser from Atlasnova.com. I was wondering if they are a legit site or scammers. Also, what is the difference between a 650nm and a 635nm? I was just looking for a laser I can have fun with and not burn my eyeballs with. THANKS everyone!
 





I don't think anyone's reviewed a laser from there yet however several members have had good experiences with them.
They are a legit. Maybe they are on the level of z-bolt?
And I believe the 635nm would be a deeper red while the 650nm is a brighter red. (but only slightly)
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

EDIT:Yup, it's the other way around. I said it backwards.

I think it's the other way around, the higher the nm, the more red and darker it looks. My 650 I can barely see the beam, and mostly in the dark with some smoke. I used long exposure shots while taking pics to see it. So 635 should be brighter than 650.

Also, wondering if you could see the beam in the dark. I know it won't be as bright as a green, but can you still see the beam?
 
Well my pen build (PHR803T) outputs around 90mW to 100mW and the beam is visible in dark conditions. At night, the beam is clear and outside, the beam is very clear. Which diode will you be using or which laser are you thinking of buying? It depends on the type of diode, for example, an LPC-815 red diode can be driven 380mA no problem and will output around 200mW to 300mW which will give it a visible beam. Different diodes need different current.''nm'' is the wavelength of a diode. The color will change with the wavelength. Here is a good picture on ''nm''s.

Yes LPC-815 and Kendal claims 380mA, which always worked great for me!

Pfew, yea anywhere over 450mA and you're pretty much guaranteed to blow the LOC. I got one running at just that;)
 
Agreed! Thankfully, never had to see a LPC die...only killed 3 PHRs so far...:crackup:!
What is your favorite kind of diode ?
 
I've killed 5 total so far: 3 LOC and 2 PHR. I only just got my first diy LOC to work and put it all in a box. I must say that the 650 is powerful, easy smoke/burn on dark things, but I can't see the beam even in the dark. There needs to be something in the air to scatter the beam, smoke, steam or oil from the kitchen. I really wanna make one with PHR, it'll be more visible even at the lower power.

From the lasers I have had so far I'd say the 405 is my favorite and I want more. Although this tiny 40mW green is getting used all the time due to it's far superior visibility! :)
 
True! I love green lasers but 405nm being my very favorite! I love the fluorescence and the fact they can write on GITD surfaces!

I was thinking about getting this one:

Atlasnova 635nm Red Laser Pointer
 
Maximum output power: <5mW / <1mW

If its output is bigger than 1mW but smaller than 5mW, I doubt the beam will be visible.

If I am wrong, which I doubt:crackup:, please correct me!

Hey Machew, the 635nm laser Atlasnova sells is a nice red pointer, and Atlasnova is known to be a reputable company. The 635nm laser pointer will produce a red dot that appears brighter than a typical red laser pointer which is 655nm; this is because 635nm appears brighter to the eye than 655nm. It will not, however, be bright enough to see the beam, because it is still only 5mW.

Purchase that Atlasnova if you want to have a red laser pointer that is brighter than a typical red laser pointer. It's good for presentations because it's brighter than a typical red, but not obnoxiously bright like greens in close quarters. If you want a laser that you can see the beam of, you will need a far more powerful red, or a different color laser like a green laser. Even so, with red lasers, even at higher powers (like 200mW, 40 times the power of a regular pointer), it is hard to see the beam. Green lasers are much easier to see the beam from even at lower powers like 5mW or 10mW.

You can buy a more powerful red laser at a site like Rayfoss. You can also buy cheap greens there too. I would not use any of the more powerful lasers as pointers, however. You should buy some safety goggles as well.
