Lol! - Instructables Laser Mouse "Hack"

I've seen this done loads before, like most know, optical mice are great fun aiming them at bright lights.

He's got a nice idea, BUT how can you click!!!!!

Also, guess which laser he's using - yep, it's a wicked laser! (core)

It's an optical mouse! It detects movement using light so if you shine a light source on it close enough then it will detect it.

btw, nice mouse timelord, I have the same one for my laptop, I love how the USB dongle hides right in the bottom

For those of who aren't "welcome" on their site: they are holding a contest to see who can post the best laser-related instructable. This will no doubt cause many ignorant people to purchase their products. I gotta hand it too them, though, they have some pretty good (although devious at times) marketing strategies

This mousy trick is nice... What actually happens is that the mouse doesnt see the dot at all, but it does pick up the speckle that you normally see around the dot when aiming at a wall.

Optical mice work with a little (black and white) camera that normally tracks surface features on your desk. It does the same with the interference pattern of the laser speckle.

I'd be a bit careful though, shining your plastic eating 200 mW DIY laser into the sensor will probably result in a permanentely (half) blind mouse... beware of PETA
