really wow... they are pretty cheap.. but the reason I asked is beacuse I can make he heat sink myself.. just need some tips.. any one??

basically you seem like you know the basics. so the next step is to get it to look as cleean as possible when finished. since diy is not scienc you must figure it out on the fly. and about the heat sink. make sure it is a fit as tight as possible for better thermal transfer. if it is a little loose then drill a small hole in the head sink and thread it for a set screw.

It's not hard to become "one of those people", basically you just have to come here every day, see the same thread posted 5x per day, search for what they're looking for, try to reply with productive advice to each of them, get no thanks, get fed up and figure it's best if you teach a man to fish rather than catching fish for people all day.

I try really hard not to be "one of those people", and I'll still go and find the relevant information for people, link them to the appropriate thread, and then say YOU SHOULD HAVE USED THE SEARCH FUNCTION BECAUSE YOU JUST WASTED FIVE MINUTES OF MY LIFE! ;)

But yeah, this isn't a topic that comes up often, so yeah, here are the relevant threads:

These threads will show you the construction of these flashlights, and how we've used them as hosts in the past. If you'd like to buy a premade heatsink for them you should contact jayrob directly, they're pretty cheap and well made.

LoL. i am one too. it's funny how that works. the longer you are here the irritation slowly creeps in. I was that noob getting mad at more knowledable people.

Fabricating your own heat sink is pretty simple if your knowledgeable with measuring tools and know your way around a lathe. I make mine out of 6061 aluminum and a few special ones I used 7075. I have also made them from brass and copper. For tooling any HSS cutter is best for soft materials, plus you will need something for the bore. A drill works fine if you can get your hands on one that is a bit undersized. A cheap 12mm bit will produce a hole that is sloppy. A undersized reamer works good.
To get your spec's you will need to measure the inside of the host's head of course. I usually just measure the components that I removed from the assy and go from there. I may need to make one and try it and then modify the spec's a bit before I have a working model. Don't forget to write everything down you never know when you might need to make another one just like it.

It might sound like a pain but it's really simple once you have the lathe set up. A regular sink should only take about 10 mins or less to make if you know how to turn.

Good Luck and let us know how you make out.

Chuck

Thank you very much CRFultz .. I will try it out soon.. btw I was also thinking of 6061 aluminium but wasnt too sure if it can be used on my lathe (dont want to break it).. but if it can be used on urs it propbably be used on my dads work one ($4000)..

thanks every one for links and help.. I will send some pics after I have made it... or I could be lazy and buy jayrobs heatsink and host... I will keep you posted.
