i recently extracted 2 diodes from a 16x dvd burner that also had lightscribe with it. and i was wondering is lightscribe done by the same diode or by a seperate diode? if it is seperate is it a useful diode? i have not tested either diode yet. im still waiting for a new soldering iron so i can connect it to a driver,

any thoughts or observations are welcome :)

I don't know, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't the same diode being used....
You said you got two diodes out of it, right?
So, one red (DVD) and one IR (CD), one of these would be used to "lightscribe", me thinks.

Lightscribe drives use a weak IR diode to do the 'lightscribe' thing. Only good diode is the red one.

ahhh ok thanks for the info :) now just need to figure out which is the red. and i guess i can use the ir as a testing diode for my first build
