Hi! Today I got a BD-RW of unknown model:

Anyone knows what laser diode it have?

The 4th image looks like it could be your diode. It is the 4-pin device soldered onto the flat flex.

Desolder that, and the glue should break off with pliers.

OK. Found too a 5.6mm LD:

The window of the 5.6mm LD looks gold.

Need help to identify those LD's in order to use it. Thanks :yh:

The one with 4 pins is likely the red/ir combo diode for CD/DVD.

I'm guessing the 5.6mm one is the bluray diode.

You're right! The 5.6mm is the 405nm.

Can you guess what current should I put into it? I run it with 75mA and 100mA. Is REALLY BRIGHT!

For who wanna know the polarity, it use the same as 650nm LD's:

I assembled it in my old MDF host without the fan, because at 100mA the 317 don't produce much heat:

And here a beam shot!

Thanks ARG!

Can someone help me identify if possible what diode is that? I think if I find how much "X" it have I can estimate a better current for it (for example: 2X, 16X etc..).

It comes from a SF-BD411 sled (as shown in my pics), the model number of the drive is useless (Model: BD-ROM), the front part of the drive looks like this:

The internal parts are all glued and the PCB have some weird wires soldered, like the open/close switch and the led indicator, seems a recycled drive, looks very archaic like the firsts CD-ROM available.

I only found some weird information about this drive saying is 4X and the model is HL-04P, from THIS site.

Knowing that "it can be" a 4X drive, is there a way to estimate the power output and the max current I can put on this LD?

Case positive violet LD's are by the way strange, coming from a weird drive like this one is understandable.

Did you measured it with a LPM? This will be helpful since I don't have one.

Thanks for the information! :yh:
