I thought the 24x drives had chip type diodes (not cans), so we never bothered with them because they'd be too hard to mount in aixiz modules...
Anyways, I've heard all this before, about freak LOC's running at 400+mW for seconds or minutes before dieing.. It's not uncommon, but unless you've got some kind of TEC setup and some seriously nonreflective lenses it'll burn itself up rather quickly or cause COD from the slightest reflections.
