I have had a few burnt out green lasers lying around :(, and managed to extract the diode out of the back of one of them.  Is the now empty casing that has the focusing lenses and IR filter (i think) any good?  Could I possibly use it for a blue ray or red diode?  Or is the position of the lenses meant to only focus light in the green wavelength?

I have adapted the old three part ones to hold red LD's in the past, you need to shorten it quite a bit to get it to focus.....

Would I also need to remove the IR filter (I assume this module has one), or will it not affect the red wavelength?

It is always better to remove any optics that are not required to
have the maximum power output... 8-)
