Been out of the laser game for a while.. I've always wanted a high powered green laser, but I've been burned in the past by other chinese sellers (o-like and lazerer)

Read a thread saying these are actually to spec? Has anyone bought any and made a review or impression thread here on LPF? Any info would be super appreciated.

Thanks guys.

Some members posted about getting their 1.5W model and then would report on it. No clue as to what happened with that haha, as far as I know nobody has purchased one *yet* :)

Yeah I would like to know this too cause I've been looking for a nice green to buy :D

I think Sta is waiting on them to finish the new hosts for these. Then he'll order one and review it. I'm also in the "interested, but won't buy until I see a review" camp.

Do we have any idea what the new hosts will look like? The current design is okay but I always like my high powered lasers to look as fancy as they are powerful :D

That's what I love about my sanwu spikers and jetlasers PL-E's. They even look like serious business lasers.

IMO, I would hold off for the new host as the old style host has zero safety features besides taking the batteries out at least. Really the old host has zero features/ safety features besides a momentary ON/OFF. Also I can't say that all their old style hosts will have this problem, but at least the 1W version that I purchased (which is the same host as 1.5W) has an issue with the push button getting stuck on, quite easily actually. Upon inspection I found that the driver has zero support besides the diode pins thenselves and therefore causes the driver to rock back and forth about 1/4" with push of the button. That little bit is causing the whole assembly out of alignment thus causing the switch to stick on. I personally think it's a bad design, but XPL is saying that shipping caused the problem.

I was going to send the laser back for repair but for a $200 laser, having to spend decent money to safely ship it back , wait months for a fix , and then risk having the laser taken by customs again doesn't sound at all appealing to me. I'd rather baby the switch and keep this one in my possession. Or maybe commission an experienced forum member to check it out.

But regarding if XPL is legitimate, yes it is, XPL does actually sell high powered 532 in a handheld, and so far the advertised power is always less than the actual power on all their purchased lasers by forum members.
Mine mode hops like crazy, and overall quality isn't the best, but also for the price that they are selling them for, what do you really expect? That's why I'd personally wait for the new host to come out as it sounds like it addresses most of the issues that the old host has.

If you want anything for a low price that is 532nm and don't mind the negatives of the product, then current model XPL is OK.

If you want a top notch professional quality great laser with many features nobody else offers then go with a JetLasers PL-E Pro 532nm see:
Green Lasers - JETLASERS.ORG

Alternatively, laserbtb makes good laser eveyone seems happy with - see: PL 520nm 532nm 100-1000

Excellent points.

I agree, wait to see what the new host is and how the new model behaves.

The current host has all the down side points you mentioned plus a duty cycle that is very short -1 minute - and they require odd 1.2 V, 18670 batteries not commonly available in USA

As you say "Mine mode hops like crazy, and overall quality isn't the best, but also for the price that they are selling them for, what do you really expect"

Definitely odd having to use (2) 18670, granted I was able to find a US seller for them, and pretty much all standard nitecore chargers are able to charge them, well really any charger with a 1.5v output should work fine.

As far as safety goes, if I could have spent $100 more on a host with some sort of safety feature I would do it in a heartbeat. Having a 1.2W green getting stuck on is extremely dangerous, I would not trust ANYONE with using this besides myself.

My 1W does start to heat up, warm to the touch after about a minute. So having a 1.5w or even the 2W in the same host, I can only imagine the terrible duty cycles that they would have real world.

Encap you said it perfectly, the current host that XPL is using for their 1W/1.5W/2W 532 is OK. Just the bare minimum On/OFF and that's it. No safety features, terrible duty cycles, requires odd ball batteries and mediocre quality. The quality that I am comparing to personally are companies like Jetlasers, Laserbtb, Sanwu etc..

I'm planning to buy their 500mW or 1W 532nm in September, since the owner told me that the new hosts will be ready at the very end of August. I'll check with him in a couple weeks and report back, though Sta seems to be in frequent contact with him as well. You can look for a review from me at the end of September, and if laserface is kind enough to let me use his LPM, I can also measure power and divergence.

Thanks for the great feedback guys. Based on what's been said, it looks like I'll either be waiting for their new hosts to come out, or I'll spring for a jetlaser.

In an earlier thread, someone made the observation that the laser is being held very close to the LPM in that video. I don't know enough about LPMs to say if that would affect the readings, but it might be something to consider.

I don't think that matters much. in Podo's LPM videos he holds it very close too
