Hey you guys are smart and know all 'bout lasers. How 'bout this:
Can you buy, or make in worst case, a lens and a diode carrier that would emmit a thin beam of light,
but NOT USING THE LASER DIODE BUT LIGHT EMMITING DIODE (LED)

I know, no burning or shit like that (I do have my very own dvd diy laser 200+mW)
I just wanna green or blue 'laser-a-like' pointing device

I also know it's kinda noobish question, but I'm damn lazy to google for it.

How about we just reply in your topic? ::) At least check your topic.....

No.LEDs emit incoherent light as opposed to a laser diode, and that's why you couldn't collimate it properly.

you cold get it down to a point, but it will still be very big. LED's have a big light-emitting surface, not like a laser, so even if LED's did emit conherent light, the dot would still be larger than a real laser.

Oh yeah, I know LED is incoherent light, but, I've tried that and made a dot, like, 3 mm in diameter, but i was holding the lens about 5 cm from the LED, therefore, using 10%of all the light or so.
Why would it be hard to make a 3-5mm wide beam all the way, if you have the proper lens why not?
I was just asking are there such lens?

Here's a duh pic.You know what happens when you stick a lens in front of the laser diode.Try to imagine that with the LED. ::)
