the skybolt is a definite clone, which is rather a shame as techlasers say it's genuine, that it's the exact same thing as the (three letter word beginning with R and ending with L, with a P somewhere in the middle). i personally can't trust a company that appears to outright lie. well, it would be *very* nice if techlasers cleared things up - i'm semi willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, perhaps they were confused and thought their skybolts were the real thing, and will fix what their website says so as to not give false facts. oh well.
and that alone earned me a ban, you don't even need to be disruptive, you just need to tell the truth and suddenly.......part of the problem with the reduced price is that a laser without batteries is useless, and as the only option is rechargable batteries, said batteries are useless without a charger. therefore, the skybolt's price of $659.99 is added to by the non-optional batteries ($19.99) and charger ($19.99), upping the actual price to $699.97. as the "other company" price is $779.00, this is a saving of only $79.03, not $119.01 as would first appear. there is also the possibility of a $20 customs charge on the skybolt, and it's warranty is half that of it's competitor. also, it is *alleged* that a skybolt was sent to their competitor for repair, with the customer thinking it was a genuine competitor's laser, and upon disassembly of the skybolt, it was found that the IR diode was 1 watt as opposed to 2.5 on the competitor's model, with a crystal roughly one third the size. of course, it would help if both a skybolt and a "other company's laser" could be sent to a neutral third party for dissection, all done on an uninterrupted video to ensure fairness, but i think most neutral third parties are too cautious of techlasers to risk wasting money on a clone. if anyone has a skybolt they're willing to donate for disassembly and internal comparison then perhaps this could all be resolved and answered one way or the other.

marianne said:you know, it does seem a bit pointless trying to purposely disrupt LC. i mean, it gives them more ammunition in the "LPF is the spawn of satan" BS, and doesn't really achieve anything. it's possibly better to try educate people on LC about better alternatives than get banned, although i just got banned for pointing out that techlasers stuff is counterfeit...in response to someone on LC asking if techlasers stuff was clones rather than the genuine thing, i posted:
