I would really love to get a 500mW 532 from lazerer and at one point I did but the unit was bad and max from lazerer was great with the return process, that was about 8 months ago. Now I'm interested in possibly trying again but my biggest issue is that IMO the host for the 500mW stick is way too small.
A 500mW 532 needs a lot of heatsinking if you want to have any decent duty cycle and if you want to maintain stable output. This got me to thinking. There are plenty of hosts out there and while the normal heatsinks we use for our normal diodes wouldn't work for a large 532 there's always the possibility of having a builder here machine a proper heatsink layout for it.
So what does everyone think about taking the guts out of the 500mW from lazerer and putting it into a better host? Is it possible for me to do, or am I out of my mind? Obviously it won't be as simple as taking the module out of a crappy pen but I think it can be done.
Has anyone done something similar before?
