* * *I absolutely HATE :banghead:the Aixiz module so when I bought my 405-G-1 lenses from Will over at Creative Technology Lasers (lasers4u on Ebay) and he asked me to try one of his modules I was happy to take a look.
* * *I know that most of us use the Aixiz because it is cheap and readily available... but I can't stand the sloppy threads. The Meridith module has been our other choice, but it is prohibitively expensive. The module that Will sent me might be good for those of us looking for something different.
* * *I am truly impressed by the quality of workmanship. The machining is beautifully done and the threads are perfect! They are smooth and tight... there is absolutely no slop with the lens. The module is only 10.5mm in diameter which means you can fit it into very small hosts that would never work with an Aixiz. A Rkcstr driver fits perfectly behind it with 0.36mm clearance on each side. I can't wait to see what someone like Jayrob can do with these. They accept the standard 9x0.5 threaded lens assemblies.
* * There is some room for improvement. It does not have a focus ring grip because at 14.5 mm it is a bit too long to allow for finger adjustment of the lens. If you have a lathe it is easy to shorten the module and make your own focus ring grip to make finger focusing possible. *The spring is conical and very long. It will need to be shortened for use if you cut the module down. If you are using an open can diode the spring should be swapped out for an aixiz to avoid it accidentally damaging the bond wires. Other than that it is a great module.
All in all, it is definitely worth taking a look at as an alternative to the usual modules.
***It comes with a plastic lens or, for a bit more $, you can get it with AR coated glass.
